Europe for my 30th!
For the longest time, I had always said that I wanted to go to Europe for my 30th. I started planning this trip probably about a year out, and came up with an itinerary based on my bucket list that I had created growing up. There were a few places that I wanted to visit and do during my 2 weeks in Europe and created my trip in order to cross off as many things as possible.
Since this was only a 2 week vacation, I knew I had to make the most out of this trip, just in case I wouldn’t be able to make it to Europe. One of the things that had always been on my bucket list was visiting Auschwitz. Learning about the Holocaust throughout school, definitely left a mark on me and I wanted to pay tribute to those that had lost their lives. So when it came to my trip, I knew I had to plan it around visiting here.
We had planned to go during mid September which was kind of perfect as this was also during the time Oktoberfest took place. The original plan was to go to Poland, Germany, Austria and then fly down to Italy since that is where my brother wanted to go. Well that plan soon changed since my parents decided that they wanted to go to Europe as well. For the most part, they were okay with our plans, except for Oktoberfest and then they also mentioned that they had their own “wish list” of places to visit while we were in Europe. So after talking with my family, I told them to choose 1 place that they wanted to go to, and I would try to plan our trip accordingly.
These are the places that I had to incorporate in our trip:
- Me – Auschwitz
- Brother – Tuscany for wine tasting
- Mom – London
- Dad – Eiffel tower and Leaning tower of Pisa
So this was definitely going to be an “on the go” trip as we all wanted to visit 4 different countries within 2 weeks which included travel days. Basically we had about 10 days to visit all of these. In the end, we decided on 6 different countries. To check out our itinerary, click here.
For those who were wondering, my brother and I planned the trip ourselves. From the flights and trains to the hotels and activities we booked everything. I tried working with an agent, however, I just kept getting feedback on how we were trying to do too much in a short amount of time. Lucky for us, our parents are more of the ‘we need a schedule’ type, instead of the “go with the flow” so having a full schedule ahead of us didn’t bother them too much.
